MU 690A
Collaboration & Performance
This course provides an introduction to collaborative and curational musicianship skills. The
course is conceived in four modules each designed to provide students with practice
creating content for imagined programs. Collaborative skills include recognizing the
differences between occupying/inhabiting/reclaiming space, 'being present’, honouring the
authentic self, taking risks, and the right to a brave/safe space. Curational skills include
addressing and redressing content to reflect societal realities, venue, and function;
addressing and re-dressing content through source, voice, story, narrative, meaning, and
audience; exploring dramatic elements of space, embodiment, movement, and
interpretation; and intersections with visuals and mixed media, multi-dimensionality,
disciplinary and interdisciplinary trends. Students will also co-devise a Code of Conduct for
best practices.
